Specialist in Supportive & Palliative Care

Dr. Julio Silvestre is dedicated to helping patients and their families navigate serious illness with compassionate, personalized care. His clinical focus is on supportive and palliative care, particularly for people living with advanced cancer. He believes that caring for a patient means looking beyond the diagnosis to understand the person as a whole, including their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. He takes the time to listen to what matters most to each patient, with an emphasis on managing symptoms, improving quality of life, and helping patients and families feel informed and supported as they make important healthcare decisions.

Dr. Silvestre earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Universidad Mayor de San Andrés in La Paz, Bolivia, in 2004. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Lincoln Medical Center in 2011, followed by a fellowship in Geriatrics at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, in 2012. He went on to complete fellowships in Hospice and Palliative Care at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2013 and Oncologic Emergency Medicine at the University of Texas Cancer Center in 2014.

Alongside his clinical practice, Dr. Silvestre is committed to finding better ways to support patients throughout their care. His research focuses on identifying patients’ needs earlier and improving communication, coordination, and access to supportive services through approaches such as patient-reported outcomes, digital health, electronic health record tools, and emerging technologies. He works closely with colleagues across specialties to bring new ideas and evidence into everyday patient care. Above all, his goal is to ensure that each patient feels heard, understood, and cared for throughout their healthcare journey.
